It's a browser plug-in or stand-alone program that automates the downloading of pics from webpages. Their ease of use sometimes causes people to go too far and they start raping the host's bandwidth.

Explanation: I was testing the properties of a unicode bug posted in /dqn/, and only noticed (and confirmed) one of the effects too late. Also, I sort of wanted to test the limits of /dqn/. All of this testing was pretty much done in one thread, over 8 or so posts.
Sort of hoping the ban can be lifted considering the consequences and board it was posted on, but I accept it if it isn't. I guess I'm sort of cool. I was too DQN for /DQN/.

...I couldn't have posted more than 15 or so posts in /DQN/ that night, including ones that didn't have anything to do with the unicode bug. It was pretty much one thread that caused all the trouble. However, I guess I understand.

In the future, please provide at least the first two octets of the IP address (e.g. 192.168..). It's not like someone is going to scan 65k addresses just to find you.

argh... i was using a web archiver to get this news section online and read it later since it was intresting and while i was viewing this site i was banned. looking at the web archieve it didnt copied the url that i wanted it to and did this site instead, i was using the Ctrl+C method. i'll be more careful next time. sorry for bothering you.
Try to get it through your head that we have a list of IPs that are banned, and to be unbanned, you have to tell us which IP to remove from the list.

I don't know why I was banned. I mean, I've only been to idlechan like.. two or three times within the past week, and I didn't even post it. It said I was using a site ripper, but.. I don't have anything like that (at least that I'm aware of)
Due to the vagaries of the Internet, innocent people are sometimes caught up. The best that can be done is to alert us when that happens so the ban can be removed.

Apologies, I was not aware that wakachan deemed this to be an undesirable activity. About once every 4 months I take an archive of the various chan boards and isolate useful threads found therein for future reference. I was unable to find an actual rules or FAQ section on wakachan before adding it to the list (this being the first time I would be archiving it) and so went ahead. Evidently a bad idea. Rest assured wakachan shall be removed from any and all future scans...but after further searching I am still unable to find any post/sticky/area defining rules for waka. If you could point me out to them that would be much appreciated.

I was banned, because I followed "DO NOT CLICK" (or something like it) link by accident. I was using Links web browser over a slow X11 connection. When I was changing the active link using up/down arrows, the remote system stopped responding (due to really slow X11 connection). I did not notice it and tryed to follow a link I thought was active by pressing the "Return" key, but nothing happened (but the keys went to input queue). When the connection has restored, my input queue went over the net to terminal server and it followed the wrong link.

For one thing I don't hotlink to image boards. I do save quite a few images though because hey, I love the Touhou art on Touhou IB, not sure if that is what caused the problem. I do occasionally use a normal Firefox add-on called downloadthemall to download all the images in a thread if the thread has a lot of images. If that is the reason why, I will stop using the add-on. Never heard of Fasterfox.

I found that clicking a link from IRC that went to wiki caused two popups to spam URLs in addition to the wiki page, and it wasn't my system. So I was trying to see if it was something in the page. The most recent link I gave on the board was to Walfas, a well-known Touhou site. I have not saved many images from this board for a long time, so it is unlikely that it has anything to do with that. I can't think of anything I might have done that actually warrants a ban, but I am very sorry if I did do such a thing, and would really appreciate if I was unbanned. Looking through the rules of the board itself (the FAQ, correct?), nothing stands out that disallows that type of speech, though it is improper internet etiquette. My first post was simply an insult. My second post was a harshly worded suggestion to ban the poster in question, but I was not trying to force it to be acted upon. Neither seem to fall under the definition of spam, as far as I can tell. I do realize, however, that making posts like this gives other users of the board a bad experience. Though I suppose it is unnecessary for me to state this, I deeply regret that I have acted this way. I am not saying this in the hopes that my ban will be retracted for doing so, as the admin is able to check my posts anyway and decide if that makes a difference without my having to, but I'd prefer not to be seen as a "complete asshat" just because I've made asshattish posts. I know it's not been a long time since I was banned, and I don't want to overstep my boundaries by making too many posts but there is actually something I don't understand about this ban, and hope that asking about it here will clear up any unnecessary confusion. I would appreciate it if the admin elaborated a bit more on why those two posts were so bad as to warrant a ban. With the statement of "that's why", I can only guess at them being the aforementioned rudeness, but did I cross the line in some manner that makes my posts into far more grievous matters, in order for such a sudden ban to be my punishment? No, you didn't run a site ripper. You haven't done anything wrong. That's just the generic ban message since 99.9% of the time that's the reason. :)
In order to understand why you were banned, let me cover why boards die. In fact, this covers more than just boards but also world design in games.
A rough approximation is that the vitality of a board is geometric to the number of regular visitors. Not linear. So a board that has twice the visitors is more than twice as lively. A board that has four times the visitors is much more than four times as lively.
So, let's say there's a board you really like (let's call it X) and you create another board that's basically the same as X (let's call it Y). If half of the visitors that used to visit X go to Y, both X and Y are less than 1/2 as viable as X alone used to be. The lower the viability of a board, the more likely it is to die soon.
So, as an example: 4chan continues to grow due to networking effects because everyone else has completely splintered into this vast space of dead boards that nobody ever visits. The reason nobody ever visits is because... nobody else ever visits. People are social beings. So they go back to 4chan.
So, the reason behind the ban: there already are Vocaloid, Haruhi, NGE, Net Character, Yoshitoshi ABe and /b/ boards. You llike IIchan/wakachan so much that you're trying to duplicate it and pull people from it to yours. And in doing so you're effectively trying to kill IIchan.
In all likelihood your new board won't succeed (sorry mate, it's just the stats). There are hundreds of dead boards out there already. But in your efforts you'll drag a little of what life is left in IIchan, bringing it closer to death. So not only will your boards fail, but your favorite existing boards will be closer to dead as well.
I feel bad banning you, because I think you're a nice fellow. It's just that your efforts are contributing to the heat-death of the *chan universe. There are faaaaar too many boards already. Every kid and their dog has one, and they're all dead, dead, dead.
In which case, I apologize. I knew that my board would not be any competition at all; indeed, I meant it only as a place to dump and be able to link to related images, and a place where all net character images, or most, were separated, so that, in order to save the contents of a whole board, users would not have to switch folders back and forth in order to categorize everything properly.

regarding Opera Mini (and potentially other similar clients), if you're banning 195.189.something or 80.84.something, then you're doing it wrong. Check against http://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/trusted-xff.txt , if the IP in question is in that list somewhere, then you need to look at the X-Forwarded-For header instead and ban that instead.
I understand wakaba's ban system isn't very fine-grained (for example you can't ban someone using an IP that's been forwarded through a specific other IP, or ban based on an IP in conjunction with other request header data), but that will be much less shotgun-blast than banning large swaths of Opera Mini users.
Might take some tweaking to get that data logged in wakaba's database, but it would be worthwhile.

I was mostly likely banned because I'm at odds with with Sling, since I think he's ruining the Net Chara board for posting Vocaloid pics on the a non Vocaloid board. I'll try to provide REAL Net Chara content, but it's usually drowned out by his trash.
