"Ten election campaign workers have been killed in an air strike by Nato-led forces in Afghanistan, officials say.

The governor of the northern province of Takhar, Abduljabar Taqwa, told the BBC that two people were also wounded in the attack in the Rostaq district.

President Hamid Karzai condemned the incident, saying that "pro-democracy people should be distinguished from those who fight against democracy"."

"Mr Taqwa told the BBC that the Rostaq district was peaceful and secure, and that there was "not a single anti-government member in the area" when the air strike took place."

"Wave after wave of tar balls floated ashore Wednesday on the renowned Goa beaches after a ship dumped tons of waste oil off India's western coast, officials said.

Semisolid lumps of oil formed layers up to six inches deep (15 centimeters deep) on beaches in the popular tourist destination. Scores of civic workers used brooms to collect and clear the oily debris, but still more tar balls were washing ashore about three days after officials believe a ship dumped burnt oil at sea.

Indian navy and coast guard vessels were trying to trace the ship, said Aleixo Sequeira, the state's environment minister. He declined to say what action would be taken when the vessel is found.

Ships regularly clean their fuel tanks and discharge the waste oil at sea, but this case involved careless dumping that exceeded all proportions, say scientists at India's National Institute of Oceanography, located in Goa."

"Allergan Inc., the maker of wrinkle-smoothing Botox, has agreed to pay $600 million to settle a yearslong federal investigation into its marketing of the top-selling, botulin-based drug.

The Justice Department and the company said Wednesday in a statement it will plead guilty to one misdemeanor charge of "misbranding," in which the company's marketing led physicians to use Botox for unapproved uses. Those included the treatment of headache, pain, spasticity and cerebral palsy in children.

Companies are prohibited from promoting drugs for unapproved, or "off-label," uses."

"The 10 banks that received the most bailout aid during the financial crisis spent over $16 million on lobbying efforts in the first half of 2010, as the debate over financial regulatory reform reached its height.

Disclosure reports show that the banks that got the most government help in late 2008 and early 2009 also invested the most to influence members of Congress, the White House, the Federal Reserve, Treasury Department and a long list of federal agencies as new rules were enacted governing Wall Street and the nation's financial system."

"Wednesday marks the end for the 75-watt incandescent light bulb for European consumers, the European Parliament announced.

The 100-watt light bulb was phased out in 2009 and Wednesday marks the end of the 75 W versions. The European Parliament said the light bulbs would remain on store shelves while supplies last.

European consumers by September 2011 will no longer be able to purchase 60 W, 40 W and 25 W light bulbs. The European Parliament said compact fluorescent, halogen, light-emitting diode or "improved incandescent" light bulbs will replace the conventional light bulb in the European Union."

"California lawmakers have rejected a bill seeking to ban plastic shopping bags after a contentious debate over whether the state was going too far in trying to regulate personal choice.

The Democratic bill, which failed late Tuesday, would have been the first statewide ban, although a few California cities already prohibit their use."

"Locked in a massive horizontal test fixture near Promontory, Utah, a huge five-segment solid-fuel booster roared to life with a torrent of flame Tuesday, generating some 3.6 million pounds of thrust in a ground-shaking $75 million test of a rocket the Obama administration wants to cancel.

With engineers and spectators looking on from a safe distance, Alliant Techsystems' Development Motor No. 2, or DM-2, ignited at 8:27 a.m. PDT, blasting out a 600-foot-long jet of 5,600-degree flame and billowing clouds of exhaust as it consumed 1.3 million pounds of solid propellant."

"Andrew White returned from a nine-month tour in Iraq beset with signs of post-traumatic stress disorder: insomnia, nightmares, constant restlessness. Doctors tried to ease his symptoms using three psychiatric drugs, including a potent anti-pyschotic called Seroquel.

Thousands of soldiers suffering from PTSD have received the same medication over the last nine years, helping to make Seroquel one of the Veteran Affairs Department's top drug expenditures and the No. 5 best-selling drug in the nation.

Several soldiers and veterans have died while taking the pills, raising concerns among some military families that the government is not being up front about the drug's risks."

>> No.5660

That's the nasty side of antipsychotics. I eat Seroquel and Mirtazapine, having used the latter for years. Before them I could succumb to rage at times for the simplest of reasons. Using these dopes has kept me pretty much calm so props for that. On the down side, I still feel like offing yours truly most days, so I've got Oxazepam for lapses and Zopiclone for sleeping. Being depressed isn't exactly very nice.

But, I always check the possible siders when I get new drugs. Both I'm taking have the possibility of increased suicidial tendencies. So when that funny feeling comes when I'm cooking with a sharp knife, I know what's going on and take a break. And I've never kept my medical status from belowed ones so they don't freak when I tell 'em about things. Sure thing that support does wonders.

It would be somewhat interesting to know how these soldiers/veterans have been medicated. With proper counseling with drugs or just giving them a prescription and telling them to work it out themselves.

Never assume a military or VA doctor is trustworthy.

Remember that "no risks" simply means "no known risks yet", especially for newer drugs. Never assume all possible side effects and conflicts are known.

Don't expect your doctor to know if drugs will conflict, especially if they are a psychiatrist. Ask a pharmacist.

To properly check for conflicts, all drugs must be taken into account. Prescription, over the counter, everything.

All drugs are dangerous, not just illegal ones. Using any drug, prescription or not, is like using any fire. Safe usage always requires caution.

>> No.5665

Almost forgot:

When receiving a prescription, check the name and dosage on the bottle to make sure it is correct. Make sure the name is spelled perfectly, some drugs have very similar names.

If the pills look different despite being the same brand and mg per pill, go back to the pharmacist and ask them about it.
