354224 No.6660

About five years ago, on a Sonic The Hedgehog forum I posted on, a few guys had found this mp3 and were examining it. To them it sounded like sonic music, but they couldn't find the game it was from.

Five years later, it's still lying about on one of my hard disks, and I just came across it now. And so now, I wonder if any one here recognises it?

To me it definitely sounds like megadrive/mega CD/32x music.

this is using way more channels then a normal genesis game. Have you tried the Chaotix sound test? I couldn't tell you where it's from other than its a YM style chip and it sounds like it's using 8+ channels.

oh, and also it could be one of the many many anonymous songs made for the X68k, which in that case you may be fucked unless a weeaboo pops out of the woodwork and tells you where this is from. This song has that light jazzy "date sim" game feel to it too now that I think about it, and X68k had a lot of those (and a YM2151 to boot, which means this could very well be from that system)

not counting the tons of doujin games 8)

Oh ho! DENIS DANNIS! PENIS DENNIS. Yeah, I've checked the Chaotix sound test... no go there.

Well man, I think I am up the roads here. I shall look through random soundtracks/files from here:

and see if I find anything. MAN-DENIS!

Thanks bro.

it doesn't sound like genesis/32X FM. more like OPL stuff...

i have that mp3 and i've been wondering about it too. never did find out what it was... it would be nice to know.

Definitely not Sonic.

Sounds like a town tune from any of the myriad RPGs of the 16/32bit eras. If it was stumbled upon on a Sonic board, check the Phantasy Star series first. Maybe Albert Odyssey for Saturn too since that was Sonic Team.

Though it does sound like potentially 32x if it IS cartridge based.

This also went by the name s_opll[1].mp3
So, it's likely that the chip is an OPLL aka YM2413.

This was appearantly found from the same site. I wonder if it could be from the same game?
