i'm looking for this jazzy .mod track called angel eyes, but haven't been able to find it anywhere. i remember it being posted here, but i don't want to sift through page after page of .mod after .mod to find it, so a link would help. also, if it helps to give specifics, it has a vocal track.

I need help plz. I have a VST plug-in called voice trap... I'm sure everyone's heard of it so I'll skip.
I can't use Voice Trap (cuz I'm dumb). But is there an alternative way to rip vocals or remove vocals from a track?

the voice trap uses a combination of short-time fourier transform with a few variable bandwidth equalizers for cleanup

while it is possible to use this type of varible frequency resistance, sometimes using a lot of this in a mix can really muddy up the highs and mids - it is worth a try though

however, something i typically use for this is called "demixing" based on spectral azimuth discrimination. simply put, it can isolate a point in stereo space with user definiable thresholds

i use it in csound
http://csounds.com/manual/html/pvsdemix

here's the theory of it in PDF format

that seems like it's just a variant of the FFT-based isolation methods with filters and the ability to isolate other positions in the stereo field besides exact center.

by the way, my plugin of choice for doing this stuff is kn0ck0ut, which does two different types of FFT-based left/right channel math-- center isolation, and subtracting right from left. also, it's only useful for preprocessing and not realtime effects because the useful output is all on the left channel and delayed because of the FFT window.

> that seems like it's just a variant of the FFT-based isolation methods with filters and the ability to isolate other positions in the stereo field besides exact center.

true except that it has nothing to do with filters; there is no frequency specific resistance - csound outlines a special spectral datatype that is completely separate from audio

looking more closely at kn0ck0ut

> FFT: 4096x4 is lower quality, less CPU. Use 8192x8 if you can... click to change.

not enough options for windowsize you need at least 16384x16 using a Lanczos window-function to not notice any artifacts from the process

all in all it seems like an entirely different process; it's a shame the source code isn't available otherwise i'd tell you exactly what's different about it. spectral azimuth discrimination is totally different and much more modular than this specific VST plugin. for example, the opcode has no blurring like the plugin does but you can simply add a pvsblur opcode if it suits you

Sorry, you lost me at azimuth. I thought azimuth was a 2D position, typically angular and used in radars...? Is there another definition for azimuth?

Sorry, you piqued my interest with that one since my job is fixing radars and I saw that...trying to figure out in my head how azimuth comes into play with isolating vocals/frequencies.

As well, I was under the impression that vocal isolation was more, or less, simply isolating common vocal frequency ranges in addition to phase inversion of the music itself to 'discover' what's cancelled out. Since vocals are typically monophonic, if the result of the phase inversion is null (or below a certain threshold), then coupled with the frequency isolation, you can 'lift' the vocals out.

Again, though, audio isn't my expertise and I doubt a radar will help here, either. ;)

I tried this and it worked fairly well. I did it in Audacity with Puzzle, and I got it so there's a bit of static in the background with vocals on top, but I couldn't align it any better because even moving it just one spot to the right or one spot to the left brought the instruments back.

>> No.4811

Thx for the replies, people. I'm currently using the kn0ck0ut prgram for what music I have instrumentals to, but it's not what I hoped for (as it said so in its readme). I'm having trouble with understanding what was given to me, but I can't seem to comprehend.

>>4724

can I get a link to that Puzzle plugin? I can't see to find that. Cool edit is, well, now an Adobe product.
Anyways, after hearing some of DJ Bouche's Haruhi remixes, I can tell that he's made his off vocal tracks not using phase cancellation. can I get some tips and pointers on where to start (and what to do) on demixing?

Oh, sorry! I just realized that my post was REALLY ambiguous. Wasn't thinking clearly when I wrote it. What I meant to say was, I tried it on the song called "Puzzle" (by ROUND TABLE feat. Nino), without using any special plugins. I just inverted the instrumental and aligned the tracks.

Requesting your most 'difficult' songs. What I mean is songs that were either extremely hard to find or very hard to make, nothing you could get off of p2p or such Basically anything that if your harddrive crashed and you had no backups of the song, you would probably never hear it again.

Well, if I had all the songs I used to have, they wouldn't be hard to find, now, would they? The one I wish MOST to find again is a song by Sarin (.it format) released on an old group that I can't remember the name of and the song had a sample of some guy saying "yes it's friday waating!" or something like that...wish I still had that song. Was one of my first confrontations with dnb made on the computer and I could see how it was done...I think kjwise was on that label too...

Lawl super Mario World.

The songs I miss the most (And haven't been able to find), are remixes of the entire SMW sound track. It had a very Katamari-Damacy feel to it, with lots of acapella stuff, and more classic band instruments (Like guitars and real drum sets and such).

Anyone have any idea what the hell I am talking about?

This, a joke midi that a friend made in 2005. I always thought it was so hilarious... but in June 2005, my computer broke and I lost it. Since it's random in nature, it's impossible to properly re-produce (although I did try).

I thought I had lost it forever, but two years later I asked my friend to search his hard disks, and he found it. I was so happy.

Or chiptune covers of chiptune-esque music.

Here's a VRC6-chiptune cover I recently made of some chiptune-y music from a SWF file of the same name ( http://dagobah.biz/flash/asci.swf ).

That really long arpeggio gave me problems, and in fact it's STILL pretty badly off, but it doesn't sound TOO bad to me.

What do you think, Oontz Oontz Oontz?

Also, if anyone would be willing to try and fix the long arp, I'll post the FTM here as well.
