Pretty much, except instead of "God of Fail," something like "The Shrine Maiden of Giving Up" is more accurate. Plus, "God of Fail" implies that the "akirame" part (which just means "giving up", not "failing") is used as a meme in a way similar to that in which "fail" is used on the English intarwebs. This is not the case.

You know, I've always preferred the Great Race Of Yith when considering aliens with yet-unknown moral systems that don't give a damn how they treat humans in order to study them.
Although, I'd guess, Mi-Go are more about doing the testing themselves and the Great Race Of Yith are more about taking over their bodies and bringing stolen knowledge back with them.

I don't think that matters much. For starters, Japanese Buddhism and Shinto share a huge amount of common ground. Japanese Buddhism has "borrowed" a lot of dogma from Shinto.
Furthermore if Bell--a goddess with nothing whatsoever to do with Buddhism--has no problem living at a Buddhist shrine, what would the problem be with her being involved with a Shinto shrine?
