This was released on LD if I remember as well. And I can say at least they kept most of the music even if they butchered out all the moral meaning behind the film.

I think Miyazaki's attitude regarding Warriors of the Wind is pathetic. If he was smart, he would have reclaimed rights to "Warriors of the Winds" and released it with Nausicaa as an extra of some sort so that all viewers could see the differences.

Actually, its not as bad as people who "CLAIM" to have seen say it is. I owned it and I own Nausicaa and I've compared the audio from the two - and funny enough, the "Warriors of the Wind" version syncs up better with the animation, gets better audio output, and the voice acting is far better.

Yes, quite a bit is missing from the original - however, the moral intent isn't (Unless you weren't watching the American version... Not sure about the German Version though, because I haven't seen that one). If you watch either film, the same messages can be found in both (although, I appreciate the "Warrior of the Wind" version more than the "Nausicaa" version).

I agree about the english voicecasts between versions on all points. I just think the original english voices were more unique and fitting to their characters. Patrick Stewart and Uma Thurman (two of my favorite actors btw) were used only because they're Patrick Stewart and Uma Thurman. I watched Warriors since I was a real little kid, I'm ecstatic that they made a full version available in the U.S. but I have a hard time watching it because the voices and voice acting just aren't right to me

No. He hates that version of the movie and it's understandable. He made Nausicaa with the intention to introduce his ideas about environment issues and someone totally screwed it.
Besides, I'm pretty sure some old Miyazaki fans get mad if they saw some damn XXXXXXXXs still selling this video. After all, the company didn't ask Miyazaki's permissions to change the plot.

Unfortunately I just stumbled across these on youtube, and I know almost nothing about them except that they're made by a subsidiary of Ghibli. I haven't seen any figurines or promotional stills or any other merch.

Heh. Well, I also say good riddance to dubs, but Disney has been pretty good about putting the original Japanese soundtracks on the DVD releases.

It's out in the UK, no dub though, for some reason (guess without US sales, they didn't think it was worth doing)

i didn't really understand the whole storyline:S but i did watch it like a year ago. She was talking about stuff that happened to her at school and kept recalling stories and then decided to live in the country? could somebdoy please explain something that i'm missing:(

What does Disney have against Only Yesterday anyway? The didn't have any problem with bringing Pom Poko over.

It mentions periods? Only remotely objectionable thing I can think of in it. 'I Can hear the Waves' seems to have disappeared as well, without even a UK release.

They've played it on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) channel in the US a few times, both dubbed and subbed. So it's ready, I think the problem is that it just doesn't have enough draw to become a DVD release. It's not really a movie kids would get, ya know?

Yeah, the fact that it's actually aimed more at an older audience is likely a bigger problem. They probably have no idea have to market it.

Disney refuses to localize it due to the mention of menstration in the movie.
