The sub only volumes have 2 dvd's per volume and 9 episodes, and are still like 22.99 online

'Tis a shame ADV lost it. Kamina was to be played by Brett Weaver, fukkin' awesome actor, best known for his role as Gai Daigoji from Nadesico. Saw the first two episodes of Gurren Lagann with the ADV dub at Ohayocon. OMFG the dub was fucking AWESOME! I am extremely disappointed that I have to watch it either subtitled or with a new dub. I'm not knocking the Bandai dub since I haven't seen it, but I don't think it will be as good as the ADV dub

ADV dubs really are the best out there, I find; aside from Cowboy Bebop and Galaxy Angel (the latter of which is kind of just So Bad It's Good), no BANDAI performances really stand out to me. On the other hand, ADV has dub juggernauts like Fullmetal Panic!, Princess Tutu, The Place Promised in Our Early Days and the like.

Either way, I'm really happy that someone is FINALLY bringing Gurren over here, but it looks like I'll just be buying the sub-only splurges since I'm expecting the dub to be very solid middle-of-the-road Bandai blah.

I think this is awesome as I hate dubs, the price is very cheap so I will be picking this up ;D.

Of course Anime fans care about dubs - purists may prefer the subs and the most dedicated may even learn Japanese, but fans know the majority of viewers watch the dubs and the future of good anime being exported from Japan may live and die on the quality of the dubs. As someone who has seen a very good dub (Oh My Goddess - Animeigo) and a very dire dub (Cardcaptors - Nelvana spit) I care about the difference.

That's the thing that bothers me the most about this macro, really... it's kind of hard to compare a bunch of sprawling epics and a story with a beginning, middle and end told quickly and concisely...

Agreed. Also, it fails to note that Gurren Lagann is INTENTIONALLY "all the same shit" when it comes to action-based anime, just take to the nth degree. No other anime has has robots that could stand on galaxies. It simultaneously mocks and pays homage to many an anime.

I heard some of the ADV dub and I thought it was horrible. I doubt bandai can do much worse, and I like the subtitle only releases as well although I won't be buying them and neither will anyone else, but I definitely prefer this model of business.
