The name of FFVII's world is somewhat debatable:

In the actual game they simply refer it to The Planet.
Square retroactively named it Gaia for some reason no one knows.
FFX and FFVII are supposed to share the same world and the FFX's world is called Spira.

Our site isn't claiming that world's names are the real ones.

As RE 6417 said, mostly of FF's worlds are Gaia.

We chose the names as follow:
1: Cyclochronos: Because of the time loop of the scenario.
2: Paramecia: Because of the name of the Empire that dominate the world.
3: Eureka: refering to the "forbidden land", my inspiration lacked, on this one.
4: Selenia: Because of the influence of the moon in the scenario.
5: Lerre: the approx. japanese pronouncing of "R", the planet of "FF Legend of the crystals"
6: Equilibrium: The latin word for "balance", refering to the world of balance.
7: Cetra: The name of the ancients who were living on the "planet"
8: Centra: The name of the ancient people who once lived on ff8 world (they were living on the central continent)
9,10,11,12,13,14:Named in the game itself.

Sorry for starting that shit but unfortunately that connection is canon because SE says so and because it's confirmed on FFX-2. Honestly I think SE just forced that connection up because FFX and FFVII are the most popular FF games in Japan.

In FFX2, it's just a small cameo crossover... Nothing that really make a real link with FF7.
There's others (and numerous) little crossovers like this in the whole serie.
For example, in FF4DS, Kain Highwind says that his father, Richard Highwind was also a Dragoon. In fact, Richard is the dragoon of FF2. Is FF2 and FF4 related for so? I doubdt it..
Other example: Necropobia ("fear of death" in latin) from ff5 is the final boss of FF9 (see picture). Is there anyway a link between FF5 and 9?
See the "Crossovers section" of FFCOMPENDIUM for much infos.

FFX/X-2.

Nojima went on to say that Shinra's attempts to use Vegnagun's remains failed
and that he was unable to complete the concept of mako-extraction, just as
Shinra had predicted. However, some 1000 years later, once space travel became
possible, Shinra's descendants would go on a voyage to the world of Final
Fantasy VII. There, at some point in the future, they would be successful in
utilizing the concept, and would provide electricity from the Planet for a
price; these descendants would found the Shin-Ra Company of Final Fantasy VII.

Well if you look at the smoke weed everyday thread as >>6432 called it, I think its explained. I wish there was a good arguement against it other than "you know its not canon", well duh, it won't be unless they say it is.

I been giving it some thought, is it possible that when Sakaguchi stopped writing the stories and Kitase started to, to continue a feeling of Final Fantasy, instead of writing something that would go along the lines of "Tales of" or Star Ocean, he went on to make games that come after others. As a writer, you do not want to admit to a timeline because it implies the idea that you're uncreative. Doesn't matter, because we know its not canon. Doesn't mean it can't be fun and interesting.

Fun fact: Every esper in FF12 is a reference to both a Lucavi from Final Fantasy Tactics as well as an antagonist from all earlier FFs.
Some are referenced in the names (Chaos, Zeromus, etc), some in design (Shemhazai, Belias, etc), some in the lore (Zalera, Famfrit, etc).
The only exception is Zodiark, who was a hidden summon in FFT.

>> No.6419

Also explanations for the ones which aren't completely obvious from their names or designs:

  • Kefka, like Cuchulainn, went mad and became a mindless destroyer after being infused with magic. He likes to use poison and devastates the entire world.
  • Zalera is a triple reference. Like Sephiroth he has one large angel wing, the shamaness he bonded with is a reference to Jenova and in FFT, the one who ended up as Zalera's host was Marquis Elmdore, a slender man with white hair who uses the masamune and genji equipment.
  • Kuja rebelled against his creator like Adrammelech and gathered an army of fiends to destroy the world, his counterpart was Zidane.
  • Hashmal giving his body in the thousand-year-war and falling into the inferno in the end is a reference to Jecht becoming Braska's final aeon and eventually Sin.
  • Belias finding a new purpose as a guardian of the king's tomb is similar to Raogrimm becoming the guardian of Dynamis, which is like a graveyard dimension populated by fallen warriors, after being defeated and brought back to sanity by the player.
>> No.6421

In the Terran town called Oeilvert, there is an anti-magic feild. This is because it used to be the District-D prison, which was also capable of magic negation. The people of Galbadia did keep this technology when they ended up on Spira, which you encounter in Macalania, where Al Bhed unearthed it and used it against Tidus and co.

Seeing as the 4 fiends appear in several FF's, I believe that's some evidence to that. Deathguise/gaze as well.

Legendary weapons might be as well, seeing as they are always the same. The fact that their location and owners change can be attributed to to being carried all around the world.

Also, in a few ff's airships have been found from ruins of ancient civilizations, and in others airships are more common. Meaning games like 1, and 10, could have taken place long after 8, 9, and 12. And games like 4, 6, and 7 in the middle, as airships were just starting to turn up then.

I don't really have anything to say about the fiends at this moment. However, I may be coming up with something soon. Thank you.

Though I haven't seen the Legendary Weapons in FFIV but know that they are there, but seeing those in FFV...the ones in FFV is the same dimension and planet of FFIV. Meaning the other side of the dimension is where I consider the Legendary Warriors are. We know in FFXII that there are beings called Occuria, which could be the Legendary Warriors after the void. I can't really pin this, so I can't really say.

As for airships...I'm going to try to list this in an understanding manner...

FFV---FFIV--FFIII--FFVIII--FFX--FFVII--FFVI
...\
....FFI
.....\
......FFII

All of the games conflic pretty heavily in terms of technology and whatnot though.

ALso I sat down and worked out a timeline for ff9 once, may be of intrets to you - I must look for it sometime.

>>6379 I would like to see your timeline

However, I don't find the technology to be all that conficting. As I have illustrated and pointed out, in many cases, civilizations had start all over. In some cases, some civilizations are the beginning, and in times, some of them go to a new place and had to start all over due to complications.

With FFV being the first world, we see ships work off of wind and steam, this is pretty old style boats, as for the airship and and that floating battle city, those might have been created by Chaos, who was Cid of Lufaine of the Preworld. When FFV splits, theres FFIV and FFI, both of which were still medievel. However, the FFI we see is actually near or around the time of after FFIX and FFVI, and yet there is still no advancements of technology, and this may be due to how little crystals FFI has. In FFvXIII, we will see how having a crystal gives way to alot of advancements, the city of which Noctis lives is the only one that has the crystal and all other countries being medievel.

However, on FFIV side, despite being medievel, has alot of technology in the Tower of Babel and the Gaint of Babel, and this is because the Lunarians. The Lunarians are made from crystals that come from FFXIII, and as we see from the timeline and from the game, FFXIII not only a big home to crystals, but as well technology. Then FFIII happens, from the Lunarians causing the Lunar Cry. Hyne creates people, they have to start medievel. As stated in FFVIII, Centra has been around for 4000yrs, this means after the Floating Continent falls of FFIII, they depart on airships to Centra, and after 4000 yrs, they've developed a slight futuristic modern time world. Just look what we accomplished since the birth of Christ, 2000 yrs later.

Well, thats where you can help, see, I have FFIX being close to the end, and the reason why the Fiends end up in FFI. In Garland's last breathe, he sends the 4 Fiends to the future, towards FFI's world in order to inact his birth, since he couldn't take the summons of FFIX. He is trying to reenact the Cosmos Reports, where Cornelia makes a soldier, aka Garland, to fight the summons. Little to his knowledge, Choas/Cid in Dischord is forcing Cid of FFI to do his bidding in trade for a time machine that you see in Chaos Shrine. We know Cid is in FFI because of Dawn of Souls for the GBA.
