Hey! Did you know that I'm dirt-poor? If you appreciate this website, feel free to send along some cash!
I guess Final Fantasy VIII was too deep for me as it has been 10 years now and I still don't understand what exactly was Ultimecia trying to accomplish... perhaps you guys can enlighten me?
>Final Fantasy VIII was too deepYeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaah...>what exactly was Ultimecia trying to accomplishThey didn't really think that one out, but I guess she just got tired of the world.Maybe she did it for the lulz?

They didn't really think that one out, but I guess she just got tired of the world.
Maybe she did it for the lulz?
She kompressed time to a single point to see the one she loved. It worked, but she forgot who he was and was killed by him and her past self as well.
exactly, at least according to the Ultimecia = Rinoa theory. That theory basically states that Rinoa, 13 generations later, was getting tired of life, especially life without Squall. She wanted to die, but can't die of natural causes, nor did she want to die by anyone's hand but Squall's. So she set up the whole "play" she remembered from her childhood (a self-fulfilling prophecy) and became Ultimecia. There's many things that "hint" at Rinoa being Ultimecia, but nothing certain. Most obvious one is that she summons Griever (which came from Squall's ring, the point that GFs can come from rings is put forward with Doomtrain). Also the words she speaks during the final battle.

>>5979 I dunno, ff8 doesn't really seem to have the capacity for that.But... maybe. That would give reason for it all, and make the end seem less stupid.

The Ultimecia = Rinoa theory has been rejected by the creators themselves.
There is some sort of time-loop, acasual synchronicity going on, however. Ultimecia supposedly had been the victim of extreme persecution in the far-flung future, and so developed an extreme hatred of all non-sorceress beings. The idea was -- I believe -- that she'd merge time, take her revenge on all of creation, and then be happy. The ironic, acasual looping comes into play when she fails: The attack from the future fuels anti-sorceress sentiment, causing the conditions which lead to her compressing time.Still pretty "derp", and not really something you can get from the information within the game, but there you go.

>>5983Eh... you can never really know how fickle the Word of God is these days... especially when is comes to fan-theory.Also, Dissidia gives us a bit more insight into Ultimecia's relationship with Squall...Ultimecia: "Dance with me..."

That makes no sense.
OP here. If this board actually lets me reply to my own thread instead of just saying "Error: String Refused" I just want to say that I'm glad to see that this board isn't completely dead yet as there are couple of replies here and that those replies are actually somewhat useful. Now if we assume that Ultimecia isn't Rinoa as this theory has been rejected by creators themselves like >>5983 said are there any clues about who she actually is? Is she Rinoa's descendant or just some random girl from the future that inherited sorceress powers from someone?

>>5988Lemme give an example: in the middle of Code Geass R2, there was a fan-theory that Zero and Suzaku will work together to bring about the Zero Requiem, but Word of God explicitly stated that the two would be bitter enemies 'til the very end. Shortly afterwards, despite all that the producers have said, we're treated to a scene where Lelouch declares himself the new emperor of Britannia with Suzaku as his Knight (of Zero).tl;dr - Word of God can deny fan-theory at first, then contradict themselves and prove the fans were correct in the next.

>>5986>Dance with me.That proves nothing about their relationship, female bad guys say stuff like that often.>>5985 So... what you're saying is, being defeated by squall's gang for trying to compress time... was what made her try to compress time? Hmm...

>>5992I believe what >>5986 was trying to say with Ultimecia's line is that Rinoa said the same thing when they first met (the ballroom and she wanted to dance with Squall).

>>5994 Oh right, I forgot. It's been a while since I played it, and the only parts that were memorable were: The part where seifer killed odin. The fight between the gardens. And the part when they fought griever.
See, I always thought that since the powers of sorceresses got inherited, she was going for a whole "become god" thing by compressing time so she could have all the power of ever sorceress throughout all time.
>>5999 That could be it.
>The Ultimecia = Rinoa theory has been rejected by the creators themselves.I doubt I get any response for this but does anyone have links to or pictures about this official denial of Ultimecia = Rinoa theory?

I am Ultimecia.
Time shall kompress...
...All existence denied.
Reflect on your...
Childhood...
Your sensation...
Your words...
Your emotions...
Time...
It will not wait...
No matter...
...how much you hold on.
It escapes you...
And...
I... kan't... disappear yet.
