It's always best to assume FF games do not have direct sequels unless it's something like X-2.

IMO, I think that all the games are, well, slightly liked to each other. somehow. like, FFX-2 seems to be a prequel to FF7, shinra has the idea of extracting energy from the planet, which could mean he started Shinra copany. not only that, all the games have similar things and places, that make them seem, connected.

Forgot to mention, seeing as no one seems to understand the other OBVIOUS referances that it IS related to FF1 more than other games in the series are to most others.

There are 4 Shrines in FF1, 4 Shrines in FF9.
Both guarded by the SAME creatures.
The Place they reside in is remincent of their previous lairs; Tiamat in Mt.Gulg/Mt.Gulug, Kraken in Underwater Palace/Sunken Tower looking thing (sunk in FF5, and everyone knows they are related [different universes all connected, but all more or less the same, again, more or less stated in the game]).

Garland was taken and formed into Chaos by them at the end of FF1, when Chaos is defeated he is never said to be gone, therefore the possiblitly that the "created" he was refering to was him being turned back into himself and since everyone knows what happens to people that have supernatural entities put in them (Vincent Valentine) it is not impossible for him to be alive even after 2000 years of so (not to mention the slow recycling of the souls that he could have made copies of himself and just put his soul back in it later if needed).

Basicly, lots of loopholes in my favor, very little in yours. I rest my case.
