Hey! Did you know that I'm dirt-poor? If you appreciate this website, feel free to send along some cash!
'sup gaizI've always been a little intimidated to post anything on any of the chan's art boards, but I decided to take the jump. Tell me whatcha think, in b4 too animu. Need tips on proportions and perspective, I should just work out of realistic reference more and figure it out, but it's good to hear it clearly said too, I think. I don't think my proportions are too bad, but the arms seem a little short compared to the length of the body(also placement of the flaring hips, too). It wouldn't be a problem otherwise since she's supposed to be kinda short, but eh.Also, does this look clearly feminine? I have a tendency to try and figure out how masculine/feminine my animu looks, and then I end up not being able to tell whether it really looks like one or the other.

She does look a bit like a guy, but regardless, she's cute. I guess I'm gay or something. Anyway, work on establishing what clearly gives a feminine appearance better. The proportion and perspective-issues are insignificant enough to nevermind imo. A picture that is more clear on revealing anatomical features would better spell out any possible problems.

>>6150Alright, thanks. I don't suppose you'd have any tips on the feminine appearance bit? As far as I can tell, the main parts are the jawline, eyebrows, and nose, but...

>>6152Pay attention to her eyebrows - a woman's should be closer to the hairline and thinner than a man's, and also have a little more curve. Her hands are a little big/thick for a girl, too.
>>6153Well, I know they should be thinner, but I find thick eyebrows attractive <___> Sorry, I know that sounds a bit arrogant, but...I had no idea about the hairline and curve thing though. And are her hands really that thick? They seem like they're still kind of small(which is what I was going for) to me, or am I being thrown off by the fact that her fingers are bent? Thanks again.

Did you rip this straight from Love Hina?
>>6155No, it was done without a reference. Does it look like it?

what, fanart? No, not really. I like your girl, just modded her a bit.
>>6163Bald spot and creepy grin. Huh...
Ok, is this better?
Experimentation. Facial expressions are cool. Just how much you can alter it by changing the mouth.
>>6163>>6165>>6166Haha, pretty cool, I quite like your style(although it's a little disconcerting seeing so many expressions with the same eyes and eyebrows, lol) I'm a little flattered, actually.

>>6175 By all means feel flattered, but more importantly; draw more stuff and post it here.
>>6176Excellent idea :PIncidentally, I noticed that yours seem to be drawn directly via tablet...do you have any tips for that? I managed to get one recently, but I'm having trouble adjusting to it.

>>6177 Yeah I have a tip about the tablet thing: Get used to itTakes time. I taped a paper over it before to make it less slippery, but I don't bother with that anymore.
Yeah, what he said. After some time you'll appreciate the "slippery" feel of the tablet when doing some work on it.

Don't know why I did this, but here's anotherone. Looks little like the original tho'
>>6191>>6192Haha, true. I don't really know what I was expecting.>>6193That's quite nice. I like the wrinkles and the shading, I haven't gotten the hang of either without reference yet. Bleh, should study more. And here I come with a speedpaint, to try and get used to the tablet. Although I say it's a speedpaint, because I suck so much I ended up taking about an hour of on and off work on just the lineart anywho, so I got lazy towards the end. Bleeeeeh, will do a better version of this later, I guess.

>>6195Goddammit, I keep mistaking the submit button for the browse button. I should just end myself, blaaaargh. Also, I realized that it's actually a pretty high resolution, since that's the default. Well, although it's like that I never zoomed in fully, which is why it's sketchy to that point. Sorry.

>>6196 you really need to work on shapes. The shape of the head in the first is good, this one looks totally wierd. I'm guessing you spent quite a lot of time reshaping things in the first?Did you use reference?Speedily reshape things, throw out lines like a motherfucker, quickswitch between erase and pencil, sketch out, adjust with eraser, repeat. Sort of mold out the shapes. Don't settle for decent, go for the gold every time. If you feel your current doodle will never carry it, start a new one from scratch. If you're ever unsure about anything, find reference but don't base everything on it.And practice sketching a lot like this. Filling canvases with just practice doodles works wonders for you. But remember reference and don't just do animu, do realism too or at least styles closer to it.

>>6199Nope, no reference. I rarely draw animu from reference, except for things like wrinkles and such. I actually spent less time touching up the first than on this one, but I'm both more used to the perspective on the first(well, it's just switching from left to right) and the feel of the tablet is still eh. I think I may have just been overlooking stuff in this case. It is flawed, and it's not nearly my best(which sounds like an excuse, I suppose), but that's what it is.I do do realism(well, it's both required and enjoyable), but it's true I've been slacking off in that regard recently.

Here's another. I'd like to say it's my attempt at redeeming myself, but it was actually done before the last one...bleh.Does the head shape still have issues? If so, be a little more specific this tiem please. Her proportions seem off to me. Maybe it's just that I'm viewing it on a screen that isn't flat, but the distance between the shoulder and elbow seems a bit long. It didn't look quite that bad on paper. Hm.Putting aside that I could just look at any picture of a woman and see, would you say those shoulders are angled down too far/neck is too long?

>>6201 If anything... I CAN SAY THIS CAB IS RARE BUT I THO- I would say the neck is too long. Sorry bout that. What concerns the arm, it's all about perspective and knowing where the elbow/hip is exactly, and I can't tell. Also you don't shade her skin so that doesn't help the telling as far as perspective is concerned. I'm more worried about the size of her hands tbh. Being they are too small. As for the head, it's very cute in dis one I'd say, and I did. Very feminine and shit, even with the eyebrows this time. She looks a bit older tho' with the head being smaller in relation to the body-frame, or so it would seem. Thanks for sharing. Next one with a different outfit say?...Actually I'm gonna beat you to that.lol

>>6202Haha, you probably will beat me to it :P Thanks for commenting, as always. I agree with you on the head and the hands...I'm trying to get the hands to be small in relation to the face, but it's hard for me to get the exact size down where it looks okay being small and not just really weird. I'll go ahead and try adding some values to the skin next time, see if it does help your judgment.Hm. Maybe I should try doing a gesture drawing of the body first before drawing on the clothes, might help.
