Long story (sort of) short: I used to draw when I was little. I drew Pokemon, stuff like that. I kept drawing, but only "anime style " (hate that term). Finally I felt that I got stuck, not getting any progress, I realised my works sucked (oh yes they did). Three years ago, I gave up. In those three years, I only drew a little something and made no progress.
About a month ago (oh, I'm 17) I decided to start again. I'm becoming media student (mostly video/audio/print) and I thought that knowing basics of visual art would help me. This time I'm mostly going for realism, for obvious reasons.
My studies will last three years. How much can person learn in three years? (I know I won't become pro.) How much time should I spend in a day for art if I want to really improve? At the moment I'm using pencils 99% of time becouse I feel that anything more expensive would go waste, but is this a mistake? I've started painting with acryls, but that's kindergarten level. I also mostly do short sketches and don't put that much time into a single work, is this okay? I've read books and tutorials. Do I look like a hopeless case?
Also, feel free to give me critique, tho I think I'm aware of most of the mistakes I make (long heads, hands still suck, anatomy, pencil technique).
First pic is my realism, second animu style.
